A/A IMDb Staff. Displaying bug (DIRTRADE items without an explanation)
Hi, everyone.
To wrap up my personal trilogy of threads about director trademarks (after #1 & #2), I'm reporting that DIRTRADE items that lack an explanation for the trademark are not displayed on the title page.
While adding timestamps to some goof & trivia for the great The Evil Dead (1981), I noticed that, of the following three DIRTRADE entries...

...only the one that includes an explanation of the keyword is displayed on the trivia page.

Although the guidelines state “An explanation for these trivia items is required before submission,” one of the examples provided to illustrate the correct format seems to allow contributions without such explanation.

At first, I thought that the colon after the closing bracket of the keyword might be the cause of the error, but that's not the case, because exactly the same thing happens with entries that end with the bracket. For instance, these two items from Jurassic Park (1993)...

...are not displayed on the trivia page.

By the way, it's hard to get a grasp on how many similar entries (lacking an explanation) currently exist in the database because these buggy items aren't exported to the tsv data files. I had to go back to the 2017 list files to find the examples from Jurassic Park. At that time, there were 119 “ghost” entries out of 1,714 director trademarks, which represents approximately 7% of the total, being John Woo (13), Steven Spielberg (12) and David Lynch (9) the names most affected by the error.
Cheers!
