Algorithms for "suggested people"?

I don't know much about algorithms - I can barely spell it - but I think we'd have a lot less "I'm not sure, let the IMDb staff decide..." and duplicates on the system if the suggestions that the system gives were a little more accurate, if this was possible...?

I was adding a vision mixer with a very common name today, and got multiple suggestions. What I noticed was that:

A. There were really far in the system names, things like (XXXVVIII), when it turns out I just needed (V);

B. None of them worked in the camera dept. which is where I was selecting for.

In the end I googled the person involved and got the right one as a google search result.

I believe there was a time when people with credits in the right department were prioritized in the name suggestions. I don't know why it isn't the case now.

@Peter_pbn I really didn't get the "Here's suggestion No. 200 of this name" when it turns out I just needed No.5.

But when you've got someone working on a show called something like "John Smith", you know it's not going to be easy.

Hi MovieCat-

Thank you for reporting! We have modified the improvement request to an idea for our staff to track interest, and in the meantime, we have also raised a ticket (Ref Ticket #V1651148059) for the appropriate team to review.

Cheers!
