Approved English IMDb display titles still showing Foreign Language titles after 2 working days

Hi,

I’m hoping someone can clarify how long approved IMDb display title updates normally take to appear, or whether I have submitted these incorrectly.

On 24 August I submitted English/international display titles for several films. These were entered as the established English titles with:

Country/Language: International: English title
Attribute: imdb display title

Several of the submissions have now been approved, and two working days have passed, but the title pages are still displaying the Swedish titles.

For example:

  • Systrar bakom galler (2016) → Prison Sisters
    Contribution: #260824-095224-364000 — Approved
  • Gäst hos den döde mannen (2004) → Dead Man’s Guest
    Contribution: #260824-095429-813000 — Approved
  • Förtvivlans gräns (2009) → On the Border of Desperation
    Contribution: #260824-100417-454000 — Approved
  • Sussie och dockhuset (2015) → Sussie and the Dollhouse
    Contribution: #260824-101303-953000 — Approved
  • Flykten från Myanmar (2022) → Born to Struggle
    Contribution: #260824-095931-429000 — Approved

The English titles are documented international titles rather than newly translated titles and supporting evidence was provided with the submissions.

For example, the page for Systrar bakom galler is still displaying that Swedish title to me even though the approved update requests Prison Sisters as the International English IMDb display title.

Is there an additional step required for an approved International English imdb display title to become the title shown on the main title page and on the director’s filmography, or is there simply a longer propagation period after approval?

Separately, I also submitted a title merge for Un tribunal pour les crimes de Khomeiny (2014) into the existing Those Who Said No (2014) page. That submission was declined as “Badly Formatted”. I have already contacted IMDb Customer Service about that specific issue and am working on correcting/resubmitting the merge, so that is separate from the display-title question above.

My main question here is why the approved English display-title submissions are still rendering the Swedish titles and whether I need to make any further changes.

Thank you for any guidance.

It's possible that these international titles are displayed to some users in English-speaking countries, but what primarily counts are entries with specific countries in the country field. For example, Prison Sisters already has one for the US.

I am in an English speaking country (the UK) and it's still not displayed as it should be. The international title should also show across all non-swedish countries in principle but that's not happening either when I ask someone from another country to check

@tilsamdio The "International English" AKA option has no effect on the display in any region, sorry, this has been the case since the 2017-2018 timeframe. This AKA option is useful for searches, but it no longer affects the display of the title.

As Peter notes, if you want to change the display of a title in an English speaking country then (a) the English AKA text should be present for that specific country with an imdb-display-title attribute and (b) on https://www.imdb.com/preferences/general/ the viewing customer's "Country/region" preference needs to be the country specified in (a) and the "Display language" must be set to English.   If (a) and (b) are not true, the original title will most likely be displayed; it is possible that the English title might be displayed due to some browser overrides / preferences (including the language setting in the upper right corner of every IMDb page) or a local IP which we detect as being located in the English speaking country, but really (a) plus (b) are the only 100% guarantees.

Hope this helps.
