Character Limit on Company Names

Just wondering if there's a reason for allowing only so many characters, as often I'll be adding departments or institutions with titles longer than allowed. Sometimes they'll fit perfectly but then the Country ISO code won't fit on. So often I'm truncating them and writing in to have them staff altered to what they should be. I cannot think there's any real point to this, be easier to remove the limit and just flag up/pend any long company titles for staff review before creation approval. It'd just save time all round in my opinion. I don't want an idea vote, just if there's no good reason, get rid of the limit or at least increase it by 10 characters to reduce so much extra effort. Thanks for reading.

Hi VonPunk- Thank you for the feedback! We have raised this with the appropriate team for visibility. We have changed this to an idea thread as well since we believe other users can comment (share their thoughts) and vote on it if they have also experienced it. Cheers!

I appreciate you passing it on, hopefully it'll be seen as the pointless roadblock that it appears to be, and adjusted.

I have voted for it as it has been turned into an idea but I think it is a bug. There are plenty of existing company names that are too long to be entered into the form.

@Maya: I think it's interesting that it's decided to make this an Idea thread while the OP explicitly stated he doesn't want that. Which makes sense, because the OP doesn't suggest an idea to IMDb, but reports something that is - at least in his eyes - imperfect and should therefore be fixed, no more, no less. So there's no reason to make this an Idea thread. It's rather simple: Either IMDb feels this is something that should be fixed and IMDb puts it on a roadmap/wish list/backlog list and makes it happen at some point in the future or IMDb feels the current situation is fine and explains why nothing needs to be done.

Once when this was reported, ljdoncel suggested a way to bypass the limit: https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/obsctructive-character-limit-in-company-listings/636d2dea5c8f315ee269648e The video he linked to is: https://imgur.com/a/bypassing-companies-character-limit-EfsWRjh

Cheers for that Peter, I'll have to try that next time if the limit is still in place, the next time that I add a long name.
