General Hospital Episode numbering cleanup

The episode numbering on General Hospital is wildly inaccuraate dating back throughout General Hospital's history, with duplicate episodes, nonexistant episodes, incorrect episode numbers, and other inaccurate things. The present day numbering is accurate as General Hospital now releases episode numbers, but they have only done sone since the 14000th episode (https://www.soapoperadigest.com/photos/gh-airs-14000th-episode/), before that, episode numbering was not a thing and with so many missing or undocumented episodes, accurate episode numbers cannot be provided until then. Even then, the episode numbering is off by a couple of episodes after the 14000th episode until I started maintaining them in December. Would it be possible to ask to remove episode numbers up until the 14000 episodes or working something else out to make the episode guide more accurate? Thanks for the feedback in advance.

Hi HeartGlow30797- Thank you for the feedback! Although we will maintain the series as how it is listed just as @skip_eastport mentions above, you are welcome to submit the respective corrections if there is incorrect and/or missing data. Cheers!

I assure you, episode numbering was indeed “a thing” before GH celebrated its 14,000th episode, and episodes #1 - #13,999 certainly preceded it. If you’re finding episodes that have data attached you don’t think should be there, then it’s the data that is incorrect and should be removed for that episode number, not deleting the episode number altogether. The better solution would be for you to begin documenting instances that you find incorrect data and submitting the appropriate corrections. If you don’t feel you want to take the time to do it yourself, you can submit it to me and I’ll make the changes, or place it here for staff or another contributor to tackle. BTW, I admire you wanting to fix the soaps. I’ve already contributed an enormous amount of data for American, UK and Aussie serials and know how tedious and daunting so many episodes can be. If it’s any consolation, with exception of just a few, most all of the soaps are a disaster in terms of data. I attempted to fix Days of Our Lives and gave up in frustration, so I know how you feel.

I know soap numbering was a thing, but the episode numbering is often really off or just straight up don’t make any sense at all. They only released the episode numbers on select anniversaries but have started releasing them with the episode summaries I have noticed. Because of these inaccuracies, I was wondering if it was better to not have the episode numbers and leave them as just dated episodes before the 14,000 episode.

Who’s the they you referred as not releasing episode numbers until 14,000? Those have never been a secret. I and others have access to routine sheets. Networks keep detailed accounts of episodes. Many episode numbers are known, too. I uploaded a fair amount of them. Suggest a merge for duplicate episodes. Submit the correct episode numbers for incorrect ones as Skip suggested. If you don’t know the correct number, ask. I bet someone has the answer. IMDb has more correct episodes than incorrect ones. Erasing the work some contributors have done correctly just because others didn’t isn’t right in my opinion.

I almost would never delete an episode, I would always try to merge episodes, I agree. I don’t like deleting data either, and I’m not planning on doing anything for a while. Just gathering feedback.
