Guadeloupe

Hello,

I found on IMDb 117 entries for the country Guadeloupe. But, Guadeloupe, according to french administration, is a french department, not a country. Is there a rule that I don't know about this ?

Populated dependencies are treated as "countries" by IMDb (and in many other contexts).

There is nothing unusual about this.

@NYVKE But Guadeloupe isn't a dependency of France; it's a full department like those in metropolitan France.

To put in U.S. terms, Alaska and Hawaii are not part of the contiguous United States, yet they are still states like the other 48 states, not territories like Puerto Rico or Guam.

@gromit82

Thank you for clarifying.

I guess staff can go ahead and address this. (I do still think there is value to users in listing these geographically distant regions separately, as people may be interested in films and other media specific to the region and its culture, etc.)

Hi @fran_ois_xavier_taboni & All -

I have raised this with the appropriate team to clarify our stance on distant regions being categorized as countries.  Once I have further details I will post the information here.
