Help needed: incorrect IMDb directing credit "unable to verify" deletion
I'm hoping someone familiar with IMDb's contribution rules can help me, because I've tried repeatedly to correct this through the normal process and I'm getting nowhere.
I'm currently listed as the director of this IMDb title:
https://pro.imdb.com/title/tt4923392/
I did not direct this project.
I want to explain exactly what happened.
In 2017, the writer/creator and lead actor of a proposed short film filmed one day of informal test footage at YouTube Studios in King's Cross, London.
I happened to be at the studio that same day working on my own project. I knew the creator, so I popped my head in, said hello and they showed me what they were doing.
That was the extent of my involvement.
I didn't direct it, produce it or work on it. I wasn't part of the production team. I simply visited the studio that day.
The creator then edited some of the test footage into a trailer/test video, which was uploaded to YouTube saying that something was “coming soon”. The completed short film was never made or released.
The trailer/test footage was submitted to IMDb as though the film itself had been released, and I was listed as the director despite having no involvement as a director whatsoever. The original YouTube trailer/test video has since been deleted from the creator's channel.
I have no knowledge of how or why I was added as the director. I was never engaged as director, was never asked to accept this credit, and had no involvement in creating the project.
I've submitted multiple corrections to IMDb asking for my directing credit to be removed, but they've all been rejected because IMDb has been unable to verify my claim.
I completely understand the need for evidence, but I'm struggling with what evidence I can provide when I was never the director.
There is no call sheet, directing agreement, production paperwork, completed film or anything else connecting me to this project as director.
I've also contacted the original creator directly asking them to correct/remove the information.
The frustrating thing is that this incorrect directing credit is now attached to my IMDb profile and contributes to what I'm shown as “known for”, despite the fact that I'm not a director and had no directing involvement in this project.
So I'm hoping someone can advise me on what I should actually be asking IMDb to do:
Should I be requesting removal of my directing credit only, or should the entire title be reviewed given that the only material ever produced and made publicly available was a trailer/test video, rather than the completed short film represented by the IMDb page?
If written statements from other people who were there that day would help, I'm willing to try to contact them and ask them to confirm that it was an informal test shoot and that I was not the director ... I simply visited the studio while working on my own project.
I just want this inaccurate credit removed from my professional IMDb record.
If anyone has dealt with something similar, or knows how I can get this properly escalated to IMDb, I'd really appreciate your advice.
Thank you,
Lia
