Help needed with cast list for UK drama series "Detective" (1964) tt0397776

I've noticed as I've been correcting the cast for episodes of this series tt0397776, as they are posted on Youtube, that in IMDB a lot of episodes list Rupert Davies playing "Chief Inspector Jules Maigret - Introduction" as if he is introducing episodes in-character as Maigret.

This seems to be completely fictitious. The episodes have no introduction and Rupert Davies is not listed in the end credits. I've set him to "uncredited" in all the episodes I've processed.

Does anyone know whether there is any truth in the entries, or whether someone has done an indiscriminate bulk-add of him to all/most of the episodes?

OK, it's a bit of a long shot for a series that was on over 60 years ago!

Maybe an admin can find out who added the entry and whether it was done per-episode or as a "block booking".

Hi martin_695862- Further reviewing this title, it depends on how the episodes were initially broadcast, if there was an introduction, the credits should remain. However, if you are certain the original episode airings did not include the introduction, you are welcome to request the removal of the credits. Cheers!

The Youtube versions of the versions that I've seen have not had any introductions. But I suppose that it is plausible that these have been edited out of the Youtube version, leaving just a normal title sequence and then the episode. I wonder whether the introduction is something that was added for an American audience. Introductions by a "host" are more a US than a UK thing. I think I'll err on the side of caution and leave the entries in place but with an uncredited attribute.

Martin, This information is in the BBC programme index based on Radio Times. https://genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/search/0/20?q=%40title+%22Detective%22&order=first&filt=is_tv&after=1964-01-01T00%3A00%3A00.000Z&before=1969-01-01T00%3A00%3A00.000Z

Fair enough! That's pretty conclusive. Quite unusual to have an actor playing a character introducing episodes of a series that he does not appear in and has no association with. I suppose the nearest equivalent is the intros and outros by Jack Warner as PC George Dixon in episodes of Dixon of Dock Green, but in that case his character had appeared in the series in the past, even if they were tacked onto episodes long after his character had left. Good thing I didn't delete the entries. It looks as if the versions of the episodes that have been uploaded to Youtube have had the introduction removed. Maybe they are an overseas release that has been rescued when the original master VT has been reused.
