In Progress

Hostess

I find it odd that in your list of suggested Self roles in the update form dropdown and in the help page, you choose to prominently divide the host role by gender:

Host

Hostess

Co-Host

Co-Hostess

https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/filmography-credits/cast-acting-credits-guidelines/GH3JZC74FVYKKFMD?ref_=helpms_helpart_inline#self

Merriam-Webster lists this meaning only under "host":

a person who talks to guests on a program (such as a radio or television show or a podcast)

"As chairman of Harpo Entertainment Group, as well as host, star, and supervising producer of The Oprah Winfrey Show, Winfrey is the most successful woman ever to enter the field of television."

Peter: Is "Hostess" even accepted as a description in a Self role?

Four years ago, when I was trying to submit a credit for a Self role in which a woman was described as a "hostess" in a social context (she was not the host of a TV show), I found that the description was automatically changed to say "host". See the discussion at https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/self-hostess/6264d143e19a9178e3caa54d for details.

I noticed it on Eurovision titles, for example

last year's final. It has been edited from Host to Hostess since last year. And it's not because they were credited that way on screen.

Hi Peter_pbn,

Thank you for your problem report.

I have filed a ticket (ref. #10612) with the relevant team to solve this issue. Once I have an update from them, I'll confirm via this thread.

Cheers!
