How is it that anyone can post false trivia (defamatory, offensive, false) to a movie without any validation of that trivia from IMDB?

Someone is posting false defamatory trivia under a number of productions, and apparently IMDB simply allows for this kind of anonymous false dissemination of information. Can IMDB block email addresses or IP's that contribute to false offensive "trivia"? It's very disheartening and (quite frankly) bizarre that a person that write anything in the "Trivia" section and it will simply be published under that movie.

Hi. I noticed someone (or the system) set this as "Private." I'm not sure if that allows others to comment. I feel my question is valid - as a producer, is there any protection in place for the movies done that have "Trivia" that are simply false? Or, is going through them one-by-one and reporting ("Correct/Delete") the only option?

Hi mondoident-

In order for our staff to review, can you post the links and/or examples of were you are seeing these trivias?

You are also welcome to report incorrect information (ie. trivias, in this case) through the contribution form.

Cheers!

Thank you, Maya! I went through this morning and manually deleted, but I'll give it a few days and see if any more occur. And next time they occur, I'll note the link. I think my main issue is the ease in which people can contribute to the database without verifying the validity of the submission. For example, I do see photos being uploaded to certain movies that are AI generated images (giving the actor different hair color, etc), clearly meant to poke fun at at the actor.

Here's an example: while, yes, this actor is in our movie, the image is 100% not relevant to the production, and is AI generated (or at least manipulated in some way and presented without context). I would say it's an isolated case, but I've had to manually remove many such irrelevant images: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt37561228/mediaviewer/rm3688148738/

I think my main problem is when a critic cites a "Trivia" that is false and presents it to me (or someone related to the production), and is completely false. This wastes our time having to manage our reputations as well as spreads misinformation about the production. I'm all in favor of freedom of speech, but also in favor of a database having accurate information. And again, when this is happening across multiple titles, I feel something should be communicated.

I'm sure I'm not the only producer who has had this issue.

Thank you for removing. What follows are all instances of targeted harassment that I can find. All written "Trivia" entries are false, and the "hands on" comment is defaming the director's character (and unfounded and untrue).

More disturbing, are the images -- all of the same actor (Chris Spinelli) and all AI altered deepfakes.

Is it possible for you to ban or block someone at the IP level? I assume this is the same person given the direct targeting (and the fact that these are not A-list celebrities/personalities).

Thank you so much for giving this your attention:

inappropriate (irrelevant to production; all images target the same actor, Chris Spinelli)
