How to separate to people that were merged?

I am Robert Blalock with screen credits with Walt Disney Feature Animation films.  I used to have my own page.  A few years ago, my page was merged with a Robert Blalack.  He is older than me and has died(I guess they merged when he died). Robert Campbell Blalack was a co-founder of Industrial Light & Magic, a division of the production company Lucasfilm.  We are 2 separate people, but when you search my name, it comes up under his name and they have given my screen credits to him.

I tried to edit it, and all they did was change his birthdate to mine!  I have turned in so many requests for corrections and nothing improves.

Hello natalablake,

You will have to move your credits from the page to a new one, in order to have two pages listed with the same name. You can find instructions and help in our Help Articles to submit through the Update Form.

Robert: I see the garbled page for "Robert Blalack" at https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0086879/.

There is also a page under the name "Robert Allen Blalock Animator" at https://www.imdb.com/name/nm16243003/, which looks like it contains some of your credits but under a very unlikely surname.

There is also a page under the name "Robert Blalock" at https://www.imdb.com/name/nm14857925/ but I don't see any information at all on that page other than a name.

In order to help get you sorted out, please go through everything on these pages and post lists here indicating what is for you and what is for the other guy, Robert Blalack.

Every credit -- whether in Special Effects, Animation Department, Visual Effects, Director, Producer, or Additional Crew -- was it you or the other guy? And if it was you, how were you credited on screen in the film -- Robert Blalock, Robert Allen Blalock, uncredited, or what?

And not only the credits, but the biography, too (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0086879/bio/). I take it that the biography page has your birth date and the other guy's death date? And what about the height, and the trivia items?

The more details you give us, the easier it will be to advise you, or for the IMDb staff to intervene and solve the problem.

Yes, they finally did separate the pages and made 2 separate pages for me since my screen credits are under Robert Allen Blalock and just Robert Blalock.  I have asked that those two pages be merged.  None of them contained any information until today, I got them to add my credits under Robert Allen Blalock Animator.  But, I have not been successful at getting them to remove my screen credits from the Robert Blalack's page.  The only credits I have are the ones that are listed on Robert Allen Blalock Animator.  I also have requested to change the page name to leave off the Animator part as that is not my name!

And, I worked on Animation, but on the Visual effects in the animated films.  So, that is also a little confusing as IMDB wants me to either be in the Animation department or the Special effects department.

Everything from 1997 to 2005 is for Robert Allen Blalock.

Everyting listed that is older than that is for Robert Blalack.

I have also put in a request for them to change Robert Blalack's birthdate back to his birthdate!  Here is Robert Blalack information.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Blalack

Robert: Please provide some more information.

1. Which department are your credits supposed to be in?

On the six Disney films listed, you have two separate entries listed under "Robert Blalack" and "Robert Allen Blalock Animator" with similar jobs but in different departments. Examples:

Tarzan: effects inbetween artist in the Visual Effects department; visual effects inbetween artist in the Animation Department

Brother Bear: assistant effects animator in the Visual Effects department; assistant visual effects animator in the Animation Department

The problem isn't that IMDb wants you to either be in the animation department or the visual effects department -- it's that they have you in both, and I'm not sure which one you are supposed to be in.

Please indicate your correct job title for every one of your Disney films (besides those above, also Hercules, Mulan, Lilo & Stitch, and The Little Matchgirl) and what department it is supposed to be in.

2. Other non-Disney credits

Are you the director of Akbar's Adventure Tours (1998), or was that the other guy?

Are you the one who received special thanks on Edgeplay (2004), or was that someone else?

Do you appear as yourself in the forthcoming documentary Uncovering Wolfen, or is that someone else?

3. Credited name

According to the credits at https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0086879/, you were credited as Robert Allan Blalock on HerculesTarzan, and The Little Matchgirl, and as Robert Blalock on MulanLilo & Stitch, and Brother Bear.

Is that correct, or if not, which version of your name applies to which film?

4. Miscellaneous biographical info

Is it correct that you were born July 14, 1968, in Syracuse, New York, USA?

Is your height 6′ 3″, or was that the other guy's height?

Do these items apply to you?

  • Finished high school at St. Paul's in London.
  • Graduated from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).

***

Thanks for your attention to this.

1. Which department are your credits supposed to be in?

I only worked in one department, but my job title did change as I got more experience.  The whole film was Animated, therefore I was in the Animation department(as opposed to the Actors or the sound, etc).  But, my focus was on Special Effects Animation, not character animation!  So, as I said before, IMDB needs to have more ways to deliniate what the Animators did.  I was not performing live action animation.  I was helping to draw/animate things like fire, avalanches, etc.

Animation Department--All 6 credits listed in the Animation Department are correct.  And, have my correct title.

So, I believe you should remove everything in the Visual Effects Department.

There are movies listed in the Visual Effects Department that I did not work on, such as Robocop.  I only worked on Animated films.

2. Other non-Disney credits.

My only credits are Walt Disney Feature Animations films.  So, none of the ones you listed here are my credits.

Are you the director of Akbar's Adventure Tours (1998), or was that the other guy?

Not me

Are you the one who received special thanks on Edgeplay (2004), or was that someone else?  Not me

Do you appear as yourself in the forthcoming documentary Uncovering Wolfen, or is that someone else?  Not me

It is correct, but the spelling should be Robert Allen Blalock.  You spelled Allan incorrectly.

4. Miscellaneous biographical info

Is it correct that you were born July 14, 1968, in Syracuse, New York, USA?

Yes, this is when I was born.

Is your height 6′ 3″, or was that the other guy's height?  This is not my height.  I would rather not have a height!

Do these items apply to you?

  • Finished high school at St. Paul's in London.--No
  • Graduated from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts).--No

Thanks for all your help.  Can we add the picture back that was there before these 2 pages got merged?

Robert: Thank you for posting further details here.

I see that some edits have already been made, but unfortunately some of Robert Blalack's credits have now been given to "Robert Allen Blalock Animator" at https://www.imdb.com/name/nm16243003/. That includes Visual Effects credits dating as far back as 1974, when you were 6 years old. Those credits will have to be moved back to Robert Blalack.

I will try to get back to this and give you detailed instructions later. That said, if another contributor or the IMDb staff wants to intervene and resolve the situation first, that would be fine with me.

@gromit82 We have applied further splits and corrections here; thanks for your help so far.  The updates should be live within an hour or so.

@natalablake We think this is everything now.  It may take an hour or so for the site to catch-up with the edits we have made internally.  For the photo, an active paid IMDbPro subscription is required to add photos to a name page.  If you have one, you should claim the page at https://pro.imdb.com/name/nm16243003/ and add the photo.

Hope this helps.

Thanks to you both!  We tried to fix this a few years ago.  Gave up.  Then, started working on it in June.  But, I should have started here at this forum.  I had a Pro subscription I guess when the picture was added.  Does the picture go away when your pro subscription ends?

Hi @natalablake,

That is correct. Please refer to our Manage your images Help guide for IMDbPro users.
