Improvement to Edit Links on Title Pages

Improvement to Edit Links on Title Pages

What's changing

We've improved how edit links work on title pages. When you click an edit link for a section, you'll now see a drop-down list showing every editable datatype visible in that section. Select the one you want to edit, and the contribution panel opens as usual.

Why we made this change

Previously, clicking an edit link opened a list of editable datatypes generated from our back-end system. This list didn't always match the data items you could see in the section, which could make it harder to find the right option. Now, every visible datatype is directly selectable from the drop-down — what you see on the page is what you can edit.

What stays the same

  • The contribution panel experience remains unchanged
  • All the same datatypes are still editable
  • No changes to how you submit or save your contributions

What you need to do

Nothing — this improvement applies automatically. The next time you click an edit link on a title page, you'll see the new drop-down list in place of the previous panel-based list.

So according to these pictures you have also removed the

ADVANCED
"Classic Editor"

section  at the bottom

As seen in picture 1 and not in picture 2?

Was that by intent or by accident?

(I'm going by the pictures here since the change is not rolled out to me when I test.)

Hi @Kristin -

The changes are now fully rolled out and live on the site, so you can now view them directly.

You'll still find the Classic Editor available through the Edit page button at the bottom of the page.  The section-level edit menus offer a streamlined experience with simplified forms for quick additions and edits.

@Michelle It's great with "simplified forms", BUT there should still be an "advanced" option at the bottom of the "side list".

How else are people to know that an advanced/other option exists?

It is not logical to new/low key users that if you click on the bottom of the page instead of at the side of a page, on at button with the same name, only placed somewhere else, that the bottom one is more "advanced" ?

The bottom one just says "Edit page", not "Edit page - advanced options"

Hi @Kristin -

Thank you for this feedback!  We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and perspective on the editing options.  This is helpful input, and we're going to take a look at updating our help content to make the distinction between the two editing paths clearer.

Hello again.

Regarding the "Edit links" that leeds to the sidebars.

Can someone help me remember.

Did there not used to be a "help link" or a "?" Question-mark that led to the help pages for the thing being edited in the sidebar?

I added a Genre now via the sidebar, and was looking for the help link with description for the different genres, but I see no ? or similar.

Is it something that has been lost in the resent changes to the edit options?

A question mark does appear for keywords and some other sections, but not for genres, which seems like a mistake.

Help link is missing on "edit link" besides Distributor also.

Also If I write in a keyword that is already there, i can't just write in the next,

i will have to first click Cancel - then - Leave on "

You haven’t submitted your changes If you leave, any unsubmitted changes you have made here will be discarded." and then add again,  so in others words I have to start all over again.

Also clicking on the Search symbol (magnifying glass) does nothing.

I had to go to the front page and use the keyword search there to find that the correct existing keyword is "throwing food into someone's face"
