Independent Feature Film Market -- is this a qualifying Release Date screening?
I noticed that Whit Stillman's film "Metropolitan" has been moved from a 1990 listing to a 1989 listing. This is based on an October 1989 screening at the Independent Feature Film Market. See https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100142/releaseinfo/ where this is listed. However, I don't know if this is considered a qualifying screening for Release Date purposes. See https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/titles/release-dates/GVUUDEPJNAW6G35P# which says, "Market screenings that are by private invitation only are not considered public releases, therefore should not be considered as release dates." Does anyone have information as to the public/private screening status of the IFFM? If the market screenings were only open to members of the film industry rather than the general public, this should not be considered a Release Date. I found the earliest version of the IFFM's website that was available on the Internet Archive ( https://web.archive.org/web/19961106124535/http://ifp.org/market/ ), from 1996, which includes in its FAQ ( https://web.archive.org/web/19961106124633/http://ifp.org/market/mktfaq.html ): "Q: Do I have to be a member of the IFP to attend the Market? A: Yes. Filmmakers, screenwriters, and company registrants all join the IFP to attend."
