Solved

Is a documentary, made from interview of one main person, for friends, family, and a web group eligible for IMDB inclusion?

Is a self made YouTube “documentary” interview with 1 guy basically to preserve one man’s oral history eligible for IMDB inclusion.

Hi Brighteye, Please see our Title eligibility guidelines in our Help article below. https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/titles/title-eligibility/G9V8J6AXTQ292S5W# If you feel this title is eligible for listing on IMDb, please see our Help guide for how to add a title to IMDb: https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/titles/adding-a-new-title/GNXTSSVTJTFCRZGN# I hope this helps!

What if it doesn’t meet the “general interest” aspect but is already in the IMDB? Does it meet “ general interest” if only family, friends and a small group of people have interest?

Hi Brighteye, If the title has released online publicly, such as YouTube, and has views - it more than likely is eligible for listing on IMDb. Cheers!

Thank you, as I remember “back in the days” when pretty much only industry professionals were on IMDB and are credits were verified. I’m hearing that student projects and homemade “1 off” pieces are getting onto IMDB. Personally, I feel it dilutes the database (allowing non professionals on)

@Brighteye- As mentioned on the guide, the title will have to meet the general interest criteria which will have to be either: Released in cinemas, shown on TV, Released on video or the web or prints have been made available to the public, Listed in the catalog of an established video retailer, Accepted and shown on film festivals... If it was made for private use only, it does not meet the general interest.

So is simply an upload to YOUTube make it eligible?

@Brighteye- Yes it can be on Youtube but also note that if submitted to review, the following criterias will be looked at as well: https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/titles/adding-a-new-title/GNXTSSVTJTFCRZGN?ref_=helpart_nav_1#guidelines

Maya, if a piece more like a compilation than a documentary is uploaded to YouTube just to make is easy to share with friends and family (private use) does that make it eligible to be submitted ?

@Brighteye- If it is for private use only, it does not meet the general interest as highlighted on our guide above and therefore not eligible.
