Misleading or unclear "Self" credits on shows

I have a question about credits. I've just seen a listing for an amateur podcast which discusses media, and in the credits, famous people who are subject of discussion are credited for the show as "Self", making it look as though they actually appeared on the podcast themselves as guests. I wondered if this breaches a rule? It does look misleading and unclear, showing them as involved in the show somehow when they have no connection to it.

Anyone advise?

TreacherMarine: If the celebrities are only discussed, with no live appearance/archive footage/archive sound, they should NOT be credited.

What if footage of films/interviews is used, as part of the discussion? So they appear on the screen via clips of something, but had no involvement in the production, and no indication they gave consent of any kind etc?

I suggest you check the IMDb's Archive Footage guide here.

Hello TreacherMarine

According to the Self Credits guidelines:

"When an individual (or group) appears onscreen as themselves, their credit must be added to the "Self" department. These credits will then appear on an IMDb name page in a different section titled Self."

Based on the guidelines the credits have to be removed, since they do not show onscreen and it is a Podcast. You can submit the deletions using the online Update Form, you can find instructions in our Help Articles.
