Movie Rating dropped a LOT due to one vote

I had a film I was involved go from 6.9 to 5.4 after just one vote, which doesn't seem right.  Yesterday it had 115 votes and a score of 6.9.  Today it has 116 votes and a score of 5.4.   The unweighted score is 6.4 so this seems really really odd and perhaps a glitch.  Can someone please let me know what happened.  Just for reference it took many votes just to move from 7.0 to 7.1 or to 6.9, so that big of a jump with one vote seems very strange to say the least.

Thanks

Hi @filmcritic,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Our voting system already detects and defeats attempts to stuff the ballot and skew the rating, as demonstrated by the difference between the weighted average you mentioned and the arithmetic mean on the vast majority of titles in the database. For additional information about IMDb ratings and weighted averages, please refer to our FAQ.

Cheers!

@Ozzy Thanks for responding.  How can it drop that much due to one vote when it took several votes to just move it a 0.1?  It basically dropped 2 points after one vote.  And how is it much lower than the weighted average?  Something doesn't seem right to move that much that quick when the pattern before never did that.

Hello filmcritic,

As mentioned by Ozzy, ratings are not weighted one by one. In order to see how the Ratings work, I encourage you to take a look at our Ratings FAQ.
