Could you confirm the current status of the following policies? I am quoting them from the Occupations section which was in the 'Additional crew' guidelines until last year and which were in the past said to apply to all crew.
Please note that the job titles should reflect the person, not the task. In other words, use "script editor" instead of "script editing"; "weapons consultant" instead of "weapons consulting"; "translator" instead of "translation"; "caterer" instead of "catering".
I assume you are now happy to have the credited occupation if available. There is, though, a remnant of this guideline in the music department guidelines, "Remember job titles reflect the person, not the task, so, for example, "lyricist" rather than "lyrics"."
When a job title is added to for necessary context, the modification should be separated with a colon. This is common when extra clarification is needed on location or unit worked, or specific person assisted. For example, "location manager: New York" or "assistant: Mr. Smith" or "script supervisor: second unit". If there is more than one modifier, they should be separated by commas: assistant: Mr. Smith, Los Angeles. Omit the word "unit" in connection with a place ("Paris" rather than "Paris unit").
Some of the current crew guidelines have similar examples, though commas are not mentioned. The Adding Filmography Credits page now says, "Location-based credit details should be entered into the "Role" field, e.g. "first assistant director: New York unit"," so I guess we should not omit the word unit.

We agree that there are inconsistencies in the job title guidance and we have been working on some behind-the-scenes clean-ups recently ahead of an announcement of a proposal through which we will be seeking contributor input. I have been personally cleaning-up job attributes on recently releases and popular releases, hence why I am doing so well in the monthly contributor rankings.
I will give you a sneak preview of the proposal document which is quite long so I will post it as a few replies below. Note this is written to match the existing style with the proposed changes included in section 13.

IMDb Proposed Job Title House Style
A reference guide for the canonical formatting of department crew job titles on IMDb.
Cast credits (actors/actresses) and voice dubbing credits are excluded — their data is displayed as-is.
1. Structure
A job title has one of two forms:

12. API Display Mismatches
IMDb inserts spaces around
/in some job text fields when returning data, but the actual stored data (visible on the contribution correction form) does NOT have those spaces. This means the API showsi / obut the form showsi/o— corrections targeting these patterns are no-ops.These mismatches should be reported to IMDb for resolution. Until fixed, the auto-fix rules for these patterns have been removed from the tooling to avoid generating no-op edits.
i / oi/oa / va/vavF / X ConceptsF/X ConceptsIf IMDb resolves the API display issue, the stored data can then be corrected where genuine extra spaces exist.
13. Proposed Acronym Case Changes
IMDb silently lowercases the prefix of
creditedRolewhen it matches an entry in a per-category pattern list. This conflicts with our desired house style for acronyms and proper nouns that should preserve uppercase.The autofix operates on the prefix only (text before the first
