Please respond to genre/subgenre problem

I have twice completed time-consumig audits of the keywords for “Once Upon a Time” (2011) - 156 episodes, twice! All keyword deletions, additions and corrections were accepted EXCEPT for deletions of the subgenres “folk-tale fantasy” and “teen-fantasy” at the episode level. These subgenres already exist at the series level, so they should not be repeated at the episode level. Could you please correct this. And, while you're at it, how about accepting all my "close to 1,000" correct genre contributions that have been incorrectly declined. As I have often stated, my goal is to help make IMDb more accurate than it already is. I hope that is the goal of the staff, too. Thanks, In advance.

The problem is: By not adding a missing genre AS a genre, you are destroying information When an incorrect keyword that incorrectly includes a genre (or two or more) is correctly deleted, that genre must be added as a genre if it is missing, or the information is lost. Example: A title has the incorrect keyword ”musical-comedy.” That incorrect keyword is correctly deleted. Then, that title must have "musical” and “comedy” as genres. If one or the other is missing as a genre, it must be added as a genre. In doing so, that title is correctly reported as a “Musical Comedy.” It is really very simple. By adding a missing genre, you are acknowledging the facts and will also be adhering to IMDb’s very own guidelines.

Hi bradley_kent - We appreciate your suggestion here. Currently, genres and keywords are separate data types and get processed separately. Additionally, an issue with automatically replacing removed genre keywords as 'genres', is that one or both could be incorrect genres for the title.

And, one or both could ALSO be correct. Currently, at IMDb, VERY FEW, IF ANY of my genre contributions are considered correct. I don’t mean to be paranoid, but I wonder if maybe somone(s) is (are) out to get me, a longtime, prolific, conscientious contributor. I object.

I know that these two subgere keyword contributions were ot approved. Why? Under current guidelines, the only exception where keywords at. the episode level may be duplicate keywords at the series level are anthology series where each episode is a distinct story.

So... How does one get the subgenre keywords “fairly-tale- fantasy” and “teen-fantasy” deleted from every episode of “Once upon a Time” since they already exist at the series level? They were all submitted, but not processed correctly.

Genres and keywords should be processed at the same time since they are often closely interrelated. This can result in the loss of information, including the source of information. If a title has an incorrect keyword that incorrectly combines two or more genres, that incorrect keyword can be deleted WITHOUT those genres being correctly audited (often added) as genres. This has happened many times to my genre contributions -- contributions that have not been correctly processed. ALL my apparently denied genre contributions (around 900) need to be reprocessed IF IMDb cares about correct information.

The problem is: The subgenres “fairy-tale-fantasy: and "teen-fantasy” are correctly listed at the series level, SO they need to be deleted at the episode level. The deletions are not being accepted. Two genres are not involved In this case, and this title already has Fantasy as a genre. IF the subgenre keyword at the episode level has TWO genres, both genres may also be correct. ALL MY GENRE ADDITIONS ARE BEING DECLINED. If one of the genres in such a keyword is incorrect, should it have been listed at the epsode level for very episode? How can something be “sub” to something else, IF that something else does not exist? Logically, impossible. No. It doesn’t. "flexibility in keyword usage, permitting the same keyword to appear on both the main series title page and individual episode" is a huge contradiction of IMDb’s own guidelines and an insult to contributors. In effect, you are asking the contributor to somehow read the subjective minds of the processors to determine IF a keyword (or genre) is acceptable. This is an impossibility. “Impossible! Impossible! Impossible,” as Pygmalion/My Fair Lady’s Henry Haggins would say. Guidelines should be followed or they should be revised, or we will all drown in a sea of unknowable and indiscenable subjectivity.

Again... WHY were these not approved. Both subgenre keywords are listed at the series level, so their inclusion at each episode level does not meet IMDb guidelines and is absolutely unnecessary.

The subjectivity of the staff in rejecting valid genres is making IMDb a questionable and often useless research tool. It is impossible for a contributor to read the inconsistent and contradicting minds of genre list managers to determine what they will accept or reject. A title may clearly and completely meet IMDb’s OWN definition of a genre, and, yet, it is rejected! Do the genre list managers have personal agendas that defy objectivity? It has been pointed out before that the cited guideline doesn't really say what you think it does. It says episode-specific keywords should not be submitted to the series page, but it doesn't say that keywords that describe the whole series cannot be added to any episode pages. If IMDb does agree with you, it would be good to clarify the guideline. Also, the guideline currently appears only in the section about plot details, so if it applies to subgenres and timeframes it ought to be moved.

If keywords that describe a whole series are added to any episode, the result would be millions of redundant keywords. In the past, this rule as I interpret it has been applied and corrected again and again. If series-level keywords were applied to every episode, the necessary repetition would make keywords pretty useless. IF they exist at the series level, it is logically assumed that they apply to every episode. By the way, accepting the deletion of duplicate series level keywords repeated at the episode level continues on other titles, unabated. But not on this one (and some others, that have been or are being corrected.)

Very curious. The deletions for episodes 1.7, 1.8 and 1.9 were correctly processed. But NOT for episodes 1.1 thru 1.6 and 1.10 thru 1.13.. Why? Do these episodes differ in some specific way? Please, process these deletions correctly.

Some logic: An episode is NOT a “tv-mini-series.” It is a PART of a “tv-mini-series.” Therefore, an episode CANNOT have the “tv-mini-series” keyword. The “tv-mini-series” keyword can ONLY exist at the series level, NOT at the episode level. Somewhat of an exception: IF a specific episode is ABOUT a tv-mini-series, then it could have the “tv-mini-series-as-subject” keyword.

What do I need to do to get IMDb to correctly process my correct genre contributions? (And, don’t tell me to add explanations, because I do that... to no avail.) Similarly, Plot Timeframe category contributions take a long time to get processed, IF at all. And, Subgenre category contributions are not processed at all. Are my genre contributions blacklisted?
