Ratings Math

Math has never been my strong suit, but I have noticed a few films which have IMDB ratings which do not appear to match the ratings breakdown. Here is one example: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5224356/ratings/?ref_=tt_ov_rat I enjoyed the movie and was shocked that it had a 3.4 IMDB rating, but when I checked the distribution, only 17% of the ratings are below 4. 32% are 10, which admittedly is high, but which may reflect IMDB users trying to boost poor rating of a funny film they enjoyed and thought had gotten a raw deal on the rating.

Hi TAB- Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Our voting system already detects and defeats attempts to stuff the ballot and skew the rating, as demonstrated by the difference between the weighted average and the arithmetic mean on the vast majority of titles in the database. For additional information about IMDb ratings and weighted averages, please refer to our FAQ here: https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/track-movies-tv/ratings-faq/G67Y87TFYYP6TWAV Cheers!
