Rejected genre contributions
I do not have some kind of weird, idiosyncratic ideas about film genres that I use when making contributions on IMDb. I always use the definitions provided by IMDb itself, and reserve my personal opinions for other forums. Therefore, please stop rejecting these two contributions.
From IMDb's definitions, #1:
Adventure | Should contain numerous consecutive and inter-related scenes of characters participating in hazardous or exciting experiences for a specific goal. Often include searches or expeditions for lost continents and exotic locales, characters embarking in treasure hunt or heroic journeys, travels, and quests for the unknown. Not to be confused with Action, and should only sometimes be supplied with it. Subjective. |
My first complaint regards the short film Gerald McBoing-Boing (1950). This short film does not satisfy the above definition. The plot is almost entirely concerned with non-perilous everyday things like family life, education and careers. There is a very brief segment involving the title character attempting to run away from home which ends almost as soon as it begins. A single scene in a short film is not enough to satisfy the definition of "numerous consecutive and inter-related scenes".

From IMDb's definitions, #2:
Music | Contains significant music-related elements while not actually being a Musical; this may mean a concert, or a story about a band (either fictional or documentary). Subjective. |
My second complaint pertains to the silent classic The Phantom of the Opera (1925). If the title of the film doesn't give you enough of a clue, the entire plot of the film revolves around an opera house. Nearly every character in the film is either a singer, musician, composer or obsessed music fan. Suffice it to say, the film contains significant music-related elements. There is nothing in the above definition that would preclude the film from being categorized in the music genre.
