Romanian diacritics not accepted in IMDb reviews

Hello,

I encountered what appears to be a character-support issue while submitting a review on IMDb.

My review was not accepted when it contained Romanian diacritics (ă, â, î, ș, ț). I had to replace them with their basic Latin equivalents (a, a, i, s, t) before I could submit it successfully.

What makes this particularly strange is that I tested other European diacritics, including German characters such as ä, ö and ü, and the review was accepted without any issue.

Romanian diacritics are standard Unicode characters, so I would expect them to be supported in IMDb user reviews just like German and other Latin-script diacritics.

Could you please confirm whether this is an intended restriction or a bug? If it is a bug, I would appreciate it if support for Romanian diacritics could be corrected.

Thank you.

I understand that the current limitation may be related to IMDb’s older support for the ISO-8859-1 / Latin-1 character set, which would explain why many Western European characters are accepted while Romanian characters such as ă, ș and ț are not.

I would therefore like to request that IMDb expand character support in reviews and summaries to include Romanian diacritics. Historically, Romanian characters were covered partly by ISO-8859-2 / Latin-2, but today the preferable solution would be full Unicode support, including the correct modern Romanian characters ă, â, î, ș and ț.

Since IMDb already supports a broader range of characters in titles and names, it would be useful for review and summary fields to support the same character set as well.

Hello temiecanu

For User Reviews as mentioned in the User Review Guidelines:

 "Please write in English only"

The characters you want to use are not allowed, therefore the system is not accepting the review.

I understand that IMDb requires user reviews to be written in English, but that is not the issue I reported. My review was written in English.

An English-language review can still contain Romanian proper nouns, titles or culturally specific terms such as “mămăligă”. Moreover, IMDb already accepts non-English characters such as German ä, ö and ü in English reviews.

Therefore, “Please write in English only” does not explain why some non-English Latin characters are accepted while Romanian ă, ș and ț are rejected. My request concerns character support, not the language in which reviews are written.
