Suggestion: Word-based audio as a separate type
I first put forward this suggestion more than 20 years ago, and unfortunately, nothing has happened since then, so I'm doing it again. A film ultimately consists of two things: words and images. Silent films have always been accepted. Now, in the form of podcasts, pure audio is also accepted. I've also encountered "videos" that, as "audio-only," are clearly nothing more than radio plays. And entire radio play series listed under "podcast series." So, audio is definitely there by now.
That's why it would make sense to finally introduce a separate category for audio, or even two, if one wants to separate radio plays and audiobooks. I see this from my experience in Germany, where actors, in particular, are very active in both areas. And in my experience, it's the same with audiobooks, at least in the UK.
Besides the advertising/image film section and the almost complete lack of dubbed versions (for some reason, IMDb only allows English dubbing artists here; from a German perspective, with a particularly rich, professional, and decades-long tradition of film dubbing, this seems downright grotesque, given that such a tradition hardly exists in the English-speaking world), the lack of an audio section is truly one of the greatest desiderata of this database. Unfortunately, aside from the podcast section, the only area that has seen significant development in the last 25 years is music videos. A new step here would truly be sensible and desirable.
In my opinion, radio plays and audiobooks would definitely be more appropriate for IMDb than video games. Although, ultimately, I don't have anything against video games.
