The Practice, s1e3, Trial and Error, REJECTED QUOTE even though I correctly filled in every requirement on the submission form

I'm sitting right here watching The Practice, s1e3, Trial and Error, and I'm trying to submit a quote by Judge Stevens. I have filled in the form and chose Judge Stevens from YOUR DROP DOWN BOX on each. HER NAME SHOWS on each required line on your form. But you keep REJECTING my submission, claiming I didn't choose the name of the character/actor. It's RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF YOU. Why is IMDB like this? Submitting a quote or anything should be a user-friendly, easy, fun experience. And you make it RIDICULOUS and infuriating even though we're jumping through all your hoops.

Hi jankath1,

I agree that this procedure is less straightforward than it could be.

It sounds like your submission was not rejected, but was not finalized on a step like this:

If you still experience the problem, here is how to solve.

You also need to select (to click so it become shaded in the field) the character's name which was previously selected from the drop-down list:

This is by design, as there may be more than one character speaking, so you need to check exactly which character the quote belongs to.

Nope. I did all that. 3 times. I checked and rechecked and deleted and tried 2 more times and the exact same - no other way to say it - LIE from imdb that I did something wrong that I OBVIOUSLY DID RIGHT because the name of the character - which was Judge Stevens - speaking was RIGHT THERE in front of them on each of 4 quote lines on my completed form. I've submitted dozens of quotes and trivia, etc. in the past and never had them just tell me NO. This is ALL on IMDB and some glitch or something.  And YES, they said IT WAS "REJECTED" each time.

Nope, no glitch.

The episode page contained no quotes right after this topic started:

Then I submitted a quote of Judge Stevens:

I am not affiliated with IMDb, by the way.

jankath1, if you wanted another quote then read closely what explained in the submission form, and kindly take note of what is suggested hereabove.

Have a good day.

Reason is the soul of all law.

@jankath1 Sorry for the problems.  Please upload a screenshot showing the issue and with the character name selected as in MAthePA's example, and we will then be able to investigate.  As MAthePA explained, even if there is only one person in the quote, you still have to select that person on each and every quote line which you are submitting.

It is possible that something is interfering with the page on your system, in which case, please also see the advice in https://help.imdb.com/article/imdb/common-issues/why-is-imdb-displaying-differently-on-my-browser/GF2ZAR69V859XLHF

Hope this helps.

How could it help ME? All it showed me was RED - no blue. Rejected. And repeatedly told I didn't choose the character who made the quote when I did. Obviously you don't believe me, so it doesn't matter. If you got it submitted, that was what I wanted. I couldn't care less who submitted it. But I didn't lie and nothing you've shown me in YOUR experience looks anything like what imdb showed ME. Calling me a liar and that there was no glitch doesn't help anyone. Glad it didn't glitch for you though.

@Col_Needham  It doesn't help me at all. I DID select the person each time and the name SHOWED ON THE FORM as selected. And still it was red and told me I DIDN'T select the name and it was rejected. I call that a major glitch. I didn't make a screenshot of what it showed. Wish I had. That would settle the question of whether I'm lying or not. But the quote is there now and that's all I wanted in the first place. And yes, your submission forms have ALWAYS been ridiculously non-user friendly. But I have many accepted submissions here and never had this happen before.

Hi jankath1,

We've made a change to the contribution form which auto-selects single speakers when adding quotes to the database. This should solve any confusion for future contributors in having to select a character from the list when there's only one person speaking in the quote. We've also updated our Quotes guide to better explain the contribution process, if there were to be any further confusion for anyone.

I hope this helps!

When submitting a quote and choosing only one person, it isn't currently possible not to select a speaker for a line which only has a stage direction or tag such as [first lines].

This seems to be a result of the recent change mentioned here:

https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/the-practice-s1e3-trial-and-error-rejected-quote-even-though-i-correctly-filled-in-every-requirement-on-the-submission-form/6a01360d92c7b05bb7489c9f?commentId=6a01cc7f1abbf5443a6d1aee&replyId=6a06f3131d9b0a1ab6adb1af

It ought to be possible, as per the quote guidelines:

Standalone stage directions or notes like "first lines" count as a separate line.

simply deselect the character name and leave it blank.

Hi, Peter.

It's still possible to deselect a speaker (with Ctrl+left mouse button), but the latest change to the quote form (which was already quite confusing for an inexperienced contributor) makes it seem as though the speaker is still selected after re-checking...

For instance,

Perhaps so. Though if I click re-check again it goes back to yellow.

You're correct, but you can still submit your contribution if, once the form is all green, you deselect the speaker again by pressing Ctrl+LMB.

@Peter_pbn @ljdoncel- Circling back, this is by design. In these cases, if a line has no speaker (e.g. [first lines] or stage direction), you will deselect the character name by holding 'Command and clicking' for Mac or 'Ctrl and clicking' for PC.

@Maya

I have no problem deselecting the name, but it is automatically selected again on the next screen. As ljdoncel notes it then seems to be possible to submit, but the form is clearly malfunctioning.

It seems the same to me.

Today I see it has been changed. Perhaps something is still in process because I have tried a few times and sometimes the speaker is automatically filled in and sometimes it isn't.
