The Real McCoys Airdates All Wrong

The episode airdates of The Real McCoys for the 1960-1961 season on IMDB are all wrong. It's a real mess. For example, you've got a Christmas episode supposedly airing on Thanksgiving day when it actually was telecast on December 21. To compound the problem, other websites have picked up on IMDB's misinformation, including wikipedia. I've pointed out a couple of these but IMDB doesn't seem to do anything. I would like to make corrections but that would entail making 39 submissions. Is there an email address where I can discuss this with IMDB personnel? I have the entire 1960-1961 season corrected and would like to submit it. I've also found wrong info on other season airdates as well. I would be willing to put forth the time and effort to correct this mess. I'm not exactly sure how this all happened. Somebody dropped the ball years ago.

Hi stevetrivia, Thank you for reporting this issue. Please could you provide us with the correct release date details for these episodes (preferably with evidence to support the correct airdates) via this thread, so we can verify and forward on the data. We would then cut a ticket to the relevant team to conduct a clean up of this data, as they will be able to complete it as part of a bulk process. Thanks again, spotting gaps or misses like this is why we value our contributors so much!

Ozzy, could you send me your email address? If I had your email address, I could send everything as attachments. Doing all of this in this forum would be a real pain. I have the episode information in a Microsoft Word format. The supporting evidence would be clips from newspapers from newspapers.com. I don't see how that would be doable in this restricted forum format.

@stevetrivia- We cannot provide direct contact information for staff within the community, however, we can review any information you share within the thread. Unfortunately, file image upload functionality is under maintenance within the community, but if there are any online sources to help verify the correct air dates we can review them. Alternatively, if you would like to start submitting the corrections with evidence directly through our Contribution form, you are welcome to do so. You are then welcome to post the submission reference numbers within this thread and our staff can track the status.

Boy, you'd think that IMDB would have a general email address for bigger projects. Here are the episodes and actual airdates for season 4. As far as proof of each airdate, I suppose I could give the newspaper, date and page. It would be up to you to verify. If someone had a newspapers.com subscription at IMDB (you really should), it would be a cinch to verify. For example... Episode 1: Sacramento Bee (September 29, 1960), page 46 1. The Tycoon September 29, 1960 2. That Was No Lady October 6, 1960 3. Foreman Of The Jury October 13, 1960 4. One For The Money October 20, 1960 5. The Jinx October 27, 1960 6. Where There’s A Will November 3, 1960 7. The Gigolo November 10, 1960 8. Teenage Wedding November 17, 1960 9. McCoys, Ahoy November 24, 1960 10. Beware A Smart Woman December 1, 1960 11. The Delegates December 8, 1960 12. Pepino McCoy December 15, 1960 13. Father And Son Day December 22, 1960 14. Executive Wife December 29, 1960 15. Farmer Or Scientist January 5, 1961 16. The New Librarian January 12, 1961 17. Baldy January 19, 1961 18. Smothered In Love January 26, 1961 19. The Legacy February 2, 1961 20. A Bundle From Japan February 9, 1961 21. The Hermit February 16, 1961 22. The Horse Expert February 23, 1961 23. The City Boy March 2, 1961 24. The Investors March 9, 1961 25. If You Can’t Lick ‘Em March 16, 1961 26. The Rival March 23, 1961 27. The Good Neighbor Policy March 30, 1961 28. You Can’t Beat The Army April 6, 1961 29. The Bazaar April 13, 1961 30. The Swedish Girl April 27, 1961 31. The New Sunday School Teacher May 4, 1961 32. Baseball vs. Love May 11, 1961 33. Theater In The Barn May 18, 1961 34. George Retires May 25, 1961 35. Pepino’s Wedding June 1, 1961 36. Sorority Girl June 8, 1961 37. Kate Comes Home June 15, 1961 38. Money In The Bank June 22, 1961 39. A Man Of Influence June 29, 1961 All episodes aired on ABC at 8:30 p.m. on Thursdays. There was no telecast on April 20, 1961. The season started a little late due to the 1960 Writers Guild strike.

Just to follow up, my methodology in researching the episodes is to look at both West Coast and East Coast newspapers, usually California and New York. I look at 10 or so newspapers to confirm title and date. The following list has the episode number followed by the newspaper, date, and page number. (Episode 1, The Tycoon, is mentioned in my previous post.) I've included one representative newspaper for each episode. Episode 25 is listed in most sources as "If You Can't Lick 'Em, Join 'Em". I hope this is sufficient because it's a lot of work. If this is OK, I can begin working on Season 5 or 6. 2. The Solano-Napa News Chronicle (10-6-60), p. 12 3. @stevetrivia Thanks for all of your detailed research here. We are very keen to use it and to correct the historical record. However, it looks like we need to start earlier in the show’s history as these changes are not just release date changes because they also affect the season and episode numbers on IMDb If we look at the existing IMDb season listings: S1 @ https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050053/episodes/?season=1 [Oct 57 to Jun 58] S2 @ https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050053/episodes/?season=2 [Oct 58 to Jun 59] S3 @ https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050053/episodes/?season=3 [Jul 59 to Oct 60] As you can see, your season 4 list above collides with the existing S3 list on IMDb in terms of both episodes and dates. Do you have more details on what might be happening here? S1 and S2 obviously look fine with well a well defined date sequence and season breaks. The trouble starts in S3 not S4 — have you been able to research S3 and see how the same sources treat those season/episode numbers and episode air dates? We would need to make all of the changes at once to avoid things getting in a bigger mess so do you full season-by-season and episode-by-episode lists for S3 through S6? Just the S3-S6 episode lists with titles/numbers/dates are fine for now. We can come back to you on source references so that will make things faster for you at this stage. Thanks for your help on this.

BTW as part of the above, we need to figure out where this episode sits in the season/episode sequence: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050053/episodes/?season=Unknown

Well, season 3 is a mess. IMDB says the season started on July 16, 1959. In actuality, a rerun from January 8, 1959 aired on that date--The McCoys Visit Hollywood. Season 3 began on October 1 with the episode, The Farmer Took A Wife. I will work on season 3 this week and try to sort it all out. And then on to seasons 5 and 6. By the way, I believe there are a few errors in seasons 1 and 2 as well, but not extensive. Heck, while I'm at it, I may as well do the entire series so that it's correct. But first I'll work on season 3.

I discovered that I had already done a lot of research on season 3. It didn't take much to complete it. SEASON 3 Notes: All episodes aired on Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. The episode, “Hot Rod”, is actually titled “The Hot Rodders”. The episode, “The Talk of the Town”, was actually titled “Talk of the Town” (without “The”). The were only 29 episodes in season 3. After the telecast of “A House Divided” on April 14, the series went immediately into reruns from season 2, beginning with “The Taxman Cometh” on April 21. The episode "The Ghostbreakers", is actually titled "The Ghost Breakers". 1. The Farmer Took A Wife October 1, 1959 Oakland Tribune (10-1-59), p. 28 2. @stevetrivia Thank you. We have corrected the S3 release dates to match the above. It will take a little longer to renumber the episodes as this is a separate process.

@stevetrivia Season 4 is fully fixed and live; we have fixed Season 3 here but it may take an hour or so for it to fully catch-up on the site. We will take a look at Season 5 over the next day or so -- thanks for the research there.

While some sources list a 40th episode of season 6 titled "Kate's Former Sweetheart", that is in error. That was just another title for "The Farmer Took A Wife" from October 1, 1959, and a rerun did not air in season 6. There were a handful of date corrections. The episodes of season 6 were in their proper order up to the last four. It took some work but I finally figured out the proper sequence. I think I'll just go ahead and look at seasons one and two while I'm doing this and if there are corrections to be made, I'll post them here. Season 6 All episodes aired at 9:00 p.m. Sunday on CBS. On June 23, 1963, a 90-minute, 15-year anniversary episode of The Ed Sullivan Show pre-empted The Real McCoys. That night’s scheduled episode, The Peacemakers, was telecast the following Sunday, June 30. Almost all sources show a rerun of Grampa’s Pygmalion airing that night but that is not correct. The Peacemakers reran on September 15, 1963. The episode, Uncle Rightly And The Musical Milker, was also known as Uncle Rightly. The episode, The Love Bug Bugs Pepino, has been incorrectly called The Love Bug Bites Pepino. Money From Heaven aired on November 4 throughout the U.S.; however, in some California markets, the episode was pre-empted by a speech by Richard Nixon who was running for California governor. In the those markets, the episode aired the following night. 1. Grampa Pygmalion September 30, 1962 The Daily Breeze (9-29-62), p. 29 2. Three Strikes And Out October 7, 1962 The Fresno Bee (10-7-62), p. 17 3. Army Reunion October 14, 1962 Santa Cruz Sentinel (10-14-62), p. 32 4. I looked at Season 1. Every episode and airdate is correct. Episode 20 was called A Time To Retire instead of Time To Retire in several sources. I saw the title both ways. So, it's up to IMDB what they want to do. Episode 25, Grampa's Birthday, was found as Grandpa's Birthday in all sources. However, I think that is probably a mistake by the newspapers. "Grampa" is used all the time in other titles. So, I'd keep it the way is it.

Looking further, this time at season two, I see both Grandpa and Grampa in episode titles. I think it depends on the scriptwriters and how they titled the episode. If all the newspapers say Grandpa, then I would assume that's how the information was submitted by the network to the newspapers.

On further reflection, Season 1 episode 25 should probably be Grandpa's Birthday, not Grampa's Birthday. Season 2 episodes and airdates are fine with the exception of the titles of episodes 22 and 37. Episode 22: The Perfect House Guest, not "Houseguest" The Berkeley Gazette (2-26-59), p. 13 San Bernardino County Sun (2-26-59), P. 42 Santa Barbara News-Press (2-26-59), p. 16 Episode 37: Grandpa Gets A Job. No source had Grampa's New Job The Sacramento Bee (6-11-59), p. 59 The Modesto Bee (6-11-59), p. 16 Sana Cruz Sentinel (6-11-59), p. 18

Just one more thing. There is a typo in the title of episode 25 in season 4. It should be If You Can't Lick 'Em, not Lick'Em. Other than that, all six seasons look really good.

@stevetrivia Thanks again; all of the corrections are live. We also added this trivia item from the information you provided on this thread: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050053/trivia/?item=tr8042171 (feel free to vote it as helpful).

Looks great. Thank you on your end for doing this. I did have a trivia item about Kathleen Nolan's accident (January 18, not February 23 as one trivia item mistakenly said), and the horse she fell from. It seems to have disappeared. Any idea what happened? I can provide sources for it if need be.

@stevetrivia Ah, this was removed because (a) trivia about specific episodes is supposed to be submitted to the relevant episode (b) the bulk of the item referenced incorrect air dates, which of course, have just been fixed :-) You are welcome to submit an edited version to the correct episode.

I will submit info about Kathy Nolan's accident under The Horse Expert and info about her return under Kate Comes Home. One other thing: could you delete the erroneous trivia item about her accident occurring on February 23, 1961? This appears in the general trivia of the series entry.

There's a mention of her accident under The Horse Expert but no detail. I've added my entry. Would it be possible to delete the other entry?

I screwed up. My trivia submission for Kate Comes Home mistakenly called the episode KATHY Comes Home. I can't correct it. Can you do that on your end or do I have to wait until it's published and then submit a correction?
