What counts as a Limited release?

#260808-154908-739000

For Lockjaw (2025), the US release shows as a full nationwide release on August 8. However, as far as I can tell, this is the release schedule (from the distribution studio's official Instagram): https://www.instagram.com/p/DboS5MrAalY/?img_index=1

Sure looks like a limited release, playing in about eight theaters before the digital release on September 8, but IMDb rejected my attempt to change the August 8 release to "limited" with a reason of "Unable to verify." I provided that Instagram link above. What else would verify this?

For a release in the US, a showing in 11-599 theaters is considered a limited release: https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/titles/release-dates/GVUUDEPJNAW6G35P?ref_=helpsrall#limited

Oh so maybe this movie is being shown in too few theaters for the "limited" designation?

@sycasey80 If it plays in 8 theaters in the USA, IMDb doesn't consider it a limited release. In that case, you can add 8 different release dates with the city as an attribute.

I guess the first date could be changed to Other: "Santa Ana, California" and the rest of the dates could be added with cities.

Could be, but this still feels like more of a "limited release" rather than a series of isolated screenings, even if it's a small number. But whatever the editors think is most appropriate here is fine. It just definitely isn't a nationwide theatrical release as currently listed.
