Won't let me update my release date

Hi!

I've seen other people have this issue, too. IMDB is not letting me delete an incorrect release date for my film, and it is harming our ability to sell said film / to close a deal for the movie.

I'm confused about why IMDB would want to harm independent films in this way...especially given the fact that they often have more circuitous paths to release.

We are just being released this year -- but IMDB somehow has a 2020 screening at a local film festival as our release date. This screening was an unfinished version of our film for audience feedback. The finished film is now much different -- has been tightened up, shorter runtime, etc. We really only screened as a "work in progress" as a favor to the festival director who is a friend.

It's insane that doing a favor for a friend and screening a work in progress in our home town...looks like it's going to cost us a real distribution deal with an airline.

I truly don't understand this policy and would love if someone could explain it to me. It feels like IMDB is actively trying to harm independent films.

Hi @hope9979 -

We consider festival screenings to be a valid release.  If the title screened as a work in progress, you can include the attribute "work-in-progress" following the festival name attribute, for example: (Cannes Film Festival) (work-in-progress)

If the title has a wide release this year, you are welcome to submit that additional release date to the title page, but the original release cannot be removed.

If the title screened as a work in progress, you
