Year range cartoon Jeannie

Currently, Jeannie has a year range of 1973-1975: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069596/reference/, despite the fact that all 16 episodes listed are from 1973 (see https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069596/episodes/?season=1). Other sources also mention that the series has 16 episodes that all aired in 1973 (examples: https://www.saturdaymorningsforever.com/2016/08/jeannie.html and https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/52573/11-unsuccessful-animated-versions-hit-tv-shows). I'm unable to find out how/why the end year of 1975 is listed, but for as far as I can tell, it's wrong.

Can a staffer look into this please and change the year range?

Hi Marco-

Thanks for reporting! Further investigating and reviewing, the changes have been applied and they will be updated on the site shortly.

Cheers!

I believe that a semi-successful Saturday morning cartoon series at the time might include 16 or so episodes, then disappear the next season, and reappear midseason in reruns to replace an unsuccessful show. The midseason reruns would be promoted as if they were new.

Don't quote me on that, but I believe that to be the case. I remember finding a number of IMDb pages for 1970s cartoon series with year ranges that went beyond the first airing of the final episode.

Thank you for doing something about JEANNIE. I never knew if IMDb wanted the year ranges to be like that or not, due to the unusual nature of the era's cartoon shows. This wasn't like an old show reappearing on local channels in syndicated reruns. Instead, the TV network just hid the show for awhile, and then brought it back, showing the same old episodes.

You'll probably find more IMDb pages for 1970s animated series with incorrect year ranges.

Jay: I checked a sample of newspaper television listings. If I understand correctly, after airing 16 straight weeks of new "Jeannie" episodes in 1973, CBS kept the show on the air but just repeated those same 16 episodes on Saturday mornings for the next year and a half.

So while "Jeannie" may have had a place on the CBS schedule from 1973 to 1975, it would be considered only a 1973 show by IMDb since that is the only year in which new episodes were aired.

@gromit82

So JEANNIE was just run consistently the entire time?

I wonder if I'm right that sometimes the networks "hid" a Saturday morning cartoon show and then brought it back, but didn't show any new episodes. I was very little at the time, but that's how I remember them doing it. I specifically remember them doing it with JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS, but I could be wrong.

Either way, I agree that IMDb should list the show as having ended on the first airing of the last episode. I'm glad Marco noticed this, because I've been wanting to ask about it for some time. I'm pretty sure IMDb lists other cartoon series the wrong way. I may have to do some research when I can get around to it.

@Gromit82: Thanks for checking. @jay_spirit: Happy to have been of help regarding IMDb's policy about series end years.
