A Black guy is sent to bring back wanted persons he befrends one of them a youth and subsequently goes to visit his enstranged wife

 Maybe black or White  bounty hunter or slave was sent to bring back several people i think they where shot on delivery one of them a youth he gets freindly with him and the youth talks him into seaking out his enstranged wife and i think he decides not to deliver the youth, I think its a western its not that old possibly less than 8 years old ?, help appreciated thanks
