Cannot remember name of horror movie

I am looking for a horror movie that I just cannot remember. I saw it quite a long time ago and I only remember a particular scene.

The scene was as follows: the atmosphere is dark, with an orange-green glow. A soldier (or man with armed equipment) is shooting at a zombie horde from behind a fence, so the others can escape. Then suddenly he gets torn apart by a monster. The next thing they show is of a guy and a girl, who is partially infected, (if I recall correctly he is in love with her) hiding/escaping via an air duct. However, the girl starts turning into a zombie or infected person and the guy has to shoot her.

I also remember that the zombies/infected were able to smell the girl's blood.

If someone knows this movie or has an idea what I'm talking about, please let me know. Massive thanks.

This is a long shot because it is not exactly like what you are describing, but in the first Demons movie from 1985, there is a memorable moment where a young couple try to escape the movie theater they are all trapped in through an air duct.  The girl changes while in the air duct, but the guy does not kill her, he gets killed.

I also have a (very) vague impression that I have seen this bit ripped off in a more recent movie, but maybe I am wrong.

Here is a list of horror movies with the combined keywords "zombie" and "crawling-through-an-air-shaft":

Was there a scene like that in Day of the Dead: Bloodline?  I don't remember much about the movie (other than disliking it), but that is the last zombie film I saw (about a year ago).  As I said, the scene being described sounded familiar.  I could be wrong though.
