Car movie from the 70s or early 80s

Hello

I’m looking for a movie, it is a long shot, because I only remember one small scene of the movie. 

At the end of the movie, we of course have the hero and the bad guy, they are in a car race and needs to jump over a broken bridge. The hero just about make it, but the bad guy fails because when he tries to get up to speed there is something blocking the gas pedal, a empty can or similar. And because of that he don’t make it across and crash and dies. 

I tried looking at old Steve McQueen movies but haven’t found anything, but it could be him. I was only 7-8 years old so the memory is not that clear =)
