Film

I’m looking for an old black & white film. The language spoken is English. But it looks as though it could’ve been staged in Berlin or something… Idk! They lived in tall apartment buildings. The kids played in the streets, in between the apartment buildings. As their moms would yell out to them. As they set on fire escapes, hanging out of windows, or sitting on the ledge of their windows. Smoking cigarettes, gossiping. Some yelling from their windows as they cooked. They were housewives, the men either had jobs, or went out daily trying to find work for the day. They listened to the radio for entertainment, which played a big role in the film. I imagine it was the time when wars were happening. They lived in very poor conditions. But in spite of their differences or conditions, they were full of laughter, gossiping and community. For years I have been trying to search for this movie. It also kinda looked like one those picture films, on a projector or something. That’s all I can think of.

I have not seen it in quite a while, but this sounds like it could be "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (1945)" -- see https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0038190/

Thank you! I thought it was a hit, but definitely similar outdoors conditions. . It would’ve had the perfect name! It didn’t seem to focus on one particular character, they didn’t wear fine clothes. You could still find a lot of the women, still in robes or lounge wear. The scene never leaves the apartment complex And it seems a bit more chaotic!. And appears to be a lot older than this film . Certainly older than my 49 yrs! This however stars Dorthy McQuire. A good watch thus far. I’m in to it already! So thanks for that!
