Help identifing an 80's horror movie

I thought of the cat scene from an 80's (maybe early 90's) horror film and can't remember the name of it. A girl and her family are down and out and have to move to a dilapidated old mansion-like house just left to them by their grandfather. A gang of punk rockers had laid claim to this house and are mad at being kicked out. One of the punk guys starts stalking the girl and nails her cat to the front door with a knife. Somehow I think he's possessed or gets possessed by the spirit of dead grandfather who hung himself, and hangs himself in the end (I think). I really have no idea what the plot to this movie was, just remember the cat hung on the door and this is keeping me up at night, because I swear it was a simple 2 word title, and I prided myself on my knowledge of horror movieage once upon a time.
