Help me find the title of a movie

​Horror/thriller movie that had a name sounding similar to “The Atonement” or “The Atoning” or something along the same lines. In the first few scenes, the psycho antagonist kills another guy by gouging his eyes out or something on a dark, dirt road. Psycho lives in a huge house in the middle of nowhere with some apparatus/machine with weird, huge cogs I think. Sorry I am fuzzy on the details, don’t remember much. The female lead becomes friends with this killer somehow. One night she finds this house and goes in and understands this is the house of the killer/her friend and realises he is a killer. Maybe this killer was obsessed with puzzles or something too.​
