Lost song in closing credits of 80's movie

This is challenging! Please help name the song that plays as the closing credits roll in an 80's (90's?) movie which I also can't recall! I've asked all my musician & trivia friends, even the director of programming at our classic rock radio station! All I have is the lyric, "Love... means... nothing in tennis!" Neither the song nor movie are obscure by any stretch of the imagination. The song is well produced,  performed & has a male vocalist. It didn't seem to reflect the plot of the movie, but had to be given "top billing" in the closing for a reason. Please help! Thank you!

Sorry everyone if this seems overly vague! The song itself is up tempo & fun. The lyric is definitely tounge-in-cheek, giving it a Warren Zevon vibe. The instruments are well played, with electric guitar featured prominently after the lyric. I just wish I remember any other lyrics! It's definitely the first song in the credits! Thanks again!

caspare,

Thank you for helping! Unfortunately, I don't hear the lyric in there which is very prominent in the production from my memory. I was really hoping it would be a movie like that (don't think I've actually seen it!) or an artist like Kenny. I've loved him since Loggins & Messina! I've listened to my Elvis Costello & checked track listings on my Warren Zevon albums but haven't found it. I've stopped short of checking every potential soundtrack I own, trying not to be obsessed! I wonder if it's a Randy Newman song? The pacing of the lyric spaces "Love... means..." then connects quickly "nothing in tennis."  This is more challenging than I imagined! Thanks again!

Hello all!

I've decided it's not a Randy Newman song. I wish I could convey the meter & inflection in the voice through this medium, but... y'know! As he sings "tennis," the inflection is on the first syllable. As in "TEN-nis."

Thanks everyone!

Thanks to all

What makes you think neither the song nor movie are obscure?

QuontonBomb,

My memory makes me think I would've seen this during VHS rental store days! And although that allowed you to rent almost anything inexpensively & watch hundreds of movies in those days, I swear I remember this as a "Fletch" kind of movie or a mainstream 80's action/comedy. I don't remember it as a drama, but more as one where the good guys triumph over the inept, predictable bad guys. There were just so many that fit that description that's making this so difficult! I wonder if I'm going to be surprised by the outcome when we figure it out! THANKS!

Oh, so you think you last saw this 3-4 DECADES ago!? Well, that helps narrow it down. But seriously, what makes you believe that you just aren't misremembering what the lyrics were?

That particular lyric came SO strongly to memory recently that I assumed I would immediately (or with little difficulty in short order) be able to place it. I still have close to 1000 cd's, 400+ cassettes, & >100 albums which frequently makes placing music trivia effortless. Many are movie soundtracks. I associate the memory with movie credits rolling since I enjoy watching them most times. They prolong the enjoyment of a movie, often have great music (!), & answer many questions - locations, bit players &... soundtrack artists! You know how credits will frequently begin with a song which continues the tempo of the movie, then tends to switch to something more symphonic or orchestral? This is definitely the former. Although when we find it, I think the source will be surprising, as I also seem to remember it not necessarily reflecting the the plot of the flick! I still haven't finished looking through my own soundtracks or few remaining dvd's, but I'd better make that a priority.

Thanks for any & all help!
