[Movie] Surreal horror film with man frying and eating a ghost (possibly 60s–80s)

Hi all, I’ve been trying to identify a surreal horror film I saw as a child—likely sometime in the 1980s, though the movie itself may be older (possibly from the 60s or 70s). It was definitely a movie, not a TV episode or series. Here’s what I remember: The main character was a man, possibly middle-aged, living alone. He was determined to catch a ghost, and eventually succeeded. After catching the ghost, he cut it into pieces and fried it in a black cast iron pan in his kitchen. The ghost pieces looked like small blobs or jellyfish, and they wiggled in the pan. I vividly remember him eating the fried ghost afterward. The scene was so disturbing it made me nauseous as a child. The film may have been black-and-white or had a primitive visual style. It was likely in English, or dubbed into English—though I’m no longer sure about the language. I’ve ruled out Eraserhead, Kitchen Sink, and The Cremator. It might have been a short film, a foreign surrealist film, or part of an anthology. Any help would be hugely appreciated—this scene has haunted me for decades!

Asked copilot microsoft com and it says https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0242490/ Not sure if that is the film, but today having AI conversational bots it's really easy to find any movie writing a description.

AI Assistance is not always reliable. It can be quite helpful, but sometimes it has the incorrect answers. However, given information on the IMDB on the film, and other sites reviewing the film I found online, it certainly fits the bill.
