Movie title

I'm looking for this movie for a lifetime. I watched as a kid and a certain scene stuck with me ever since. A German soldier (WWII movie and it's b&w) breaks down after a close battle, doesn't want to go with war anymore, breaks his riffle hitting it surrounding boulders. Right after that a soldier from opposing army shoots him to death. Recently I discovered that actor who played German soldier was Hardy Kruger (only thing stayed with me was soldier's face, so I recognized actor right away ) but I can't find the movie checking Kruger's movies. Help would be highly appreciated.
