Scene of old man caressing a dead fish on his lap

Hi everyone.

Does anyone remember an American movie, probably from the late 80s or 90s, with a scene in which the main character (a middle aged man) goes to visit an older man at his house in the countryside? As the main character approaches the house with his car through the small road that leads to it, he sees the older man sitting down (on a bench or a chair, I can’t remember) under the trees outside his house. The main character gets out of his car and walks towards the older man, then he sees that the older man is holding on his lap a dead fish (like a trout or a salmon) that he seems to have recently caught. He’s caressing the fish very slowly with a relaxed but absent look, like he’s having some transcendental thoughts going through his mind, maybe about death. When the main character talks to him, the older man responds, but remains absentminded. After a short conversation, the main character decides to leave, letting the older man get lost in his thoughts again.

Thanks!
