Trying to find a movie I saw

Hi, Im trying to find a movie i saw many years ago, It was a old movie or tv mini series from like the 1970's or 1980s where in the beginning, I saw it back in 1997 or 1998 and it is live action and in English and in color. I remember in the beginning, a man and his son are in an alcohol bar pub and the man has really thick glasses on and is drinking a green beer. The son asks the dad if they can go now and the dad wants 1 more beer, and later in the movie the boy is with his sister and the sister comes out of the other room and she is crying because she says that her mom hit her (it is not shown only implied.) both the boy and girl have blonde hair and are Caucasian / white. thank you
