Compared to the IMDb web page, the search utility on the IMDb mobile app is rudimentary. Adding the full IMDb search functionality would be very helpful.
Until IMDb improves search on it smart phone apps, you could try using a web browser on your smart phone instead of the IMDb app for your phone. The major downside is that the IMDb web pages are not formatted for such small screens.

Am I missing something? One of my most used apps on my iPhone! But I would love it if we could search and view "Character" profiles (Jack Ryan, Ace Ventura, Dr. Who, etc.) to see which movies they appeared in and Who is this? All played them.

IMDB shows little regard for it's audience in this regard. Perhaps they'll do it one day.
