Could we please reduce the bumping to max. 3 poll ideas per user a day?

Hi, guys. Since some times, users post 10-20 and more *bumps* a day. That causes new ideas getting instantly pushed out to page 3, ... 4, ... 5. I don't like that. It's like a very aggressiv advertising. I also think it lowers the quality to push out 5 favorite everything ideas a day, just to claim the subject instead of thinking on more quality. I must admit that this daily rush just to push out competitors goes on my nerves. Did you Look at the people getting boring on that sinking quality? It's not only that we were banned to be reached on at least two clicks from homepage, now also the qualtiy sinks. I remember on times when in a few days a few hundred up to 1.000 votes on a poll were normal. Now 200 votes after weeks are awesome. We don't need the third poll about the favorite actor from - let's say - Stargate. ... And then these ideas get bumped and bumped, and bumped. :( Don't you agree guys?

YES. I've previously mentioned this to two users. I also posted a reminder in "Discussion: Bumping of Threads" two months ago: https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/imdb-poll/discussion-bumping-of-threads/5f4a7a3c8815453dba9eeb55

How can we reduce the number of ideas that each person can submit daily?

"YES." Maybe some technical hurdles? I don't really like that, but when it's the only way to reduce that!? Else there is only the way for the admins looking after that. I have got no authority to change that.

amirshossein1989, it was more about bumping. I'd say nothing if there were only top ideas.

All in all, no one can deny that the reduction of votes per poll is quite significant.

Maybe a way could be to suspend the user for a week? If someone does to often, he/she can be slowed down a little by that. I guess that could have a learning effect, if it happened 2, 3 times? But it has to be tied to rules of the forum. So we first would have to make a rule like e.g. one bump and two suggestions a day maximum

Is it possible for the website to do that function? I think there are a lot of bugs and problems here that should be fixed and limit to number of each users poll is more available...

I don't know if they can or will do. It's a matter of programming the website. I guess it's too much ado and effort to do it. When you look how the interest of the poll section all-in-all sank, it seems a little much to do. Especially when I look at the damages of this forum. It was more funtionable a few weeks ago. It still doesn't work like before. I guess the bumping will rage from time to time and will only be regulated by the admins. Telling them to slow down and things like that. You see, Jessica did.

Breu, I moved this thread to 'Idea' for more visibility. I'll make sure it doesn't get lost.

I agree with this idea that admins have significant access to control the people who generate too many poll suggestions without any rest!

Sure. But I'm a friend of preliminary talking together. That's why I brought up that threat were we can talk about. Maybe for one or the other it's enough to read that other users don't like it. I think it's wrong to always strike and play hardball. We are fellows, aren't we? Together is always better. And fellows tell each other their mistakes in a friendly way, isn't it? There shouldn't be a front between us, just because "justice is done, then". That would poison the relationships between us. That's exactly what I don't want. So I'm about to be aware of forcing it too much. Best solution would be a technical restriction of 2 suggestions a day and max. of 3 bumps a day. It would be a fair, neutral regulation, the same for everyone and no one would have to blame each other. If more than 2 suggestions or three bumps a day would be necessary for colaborative efforts in polls, an admin could give green light for more suggestions. But that's a matter of programming the website for it and I don't know if the effort is justified for a little free riding group like us. Don't forget that programmers are expensive. So I guess it will stay a matter of conversation between us.

"I agree with this idea that admins have significant access to control the people who generate too many poll suggestions without any rest!" I'm not sure I agree that the admins should or can control how many suggestions a user posts. But since Kirk-Picard is someone who tends to post many suggestions in a row, maybe you could get him to join this conversation and talk about it with him?

I wonder he didn't join himself until now. But yes, we can invite him to join the discussion.

I do respect and like other members of this website and never get anyone as an enemy at all! Just recommended a new opinion about this phenomenon and we can keep going with our talk here...

We have a different view about the admin's abilities here Jessica, but I respect you a lot. About Kirk-Picard, I don't know him and can't offer him to join us here for talking. Maybe you can...

Why can't you offer him to join? You can also invite him. I did, a few hours ago.

I personally don't agree with just 2 suggestions a day , but if there's a consensus then I'll abide by it. On board with 3 bumps a day - however there's a caveat - edited posts also come on top of the forum - do they count as bumps or just when users manually comment "Bump"?

I see that as a technical bug. So if not by bumping, a threat can be put to the top as easy as with bumping. You are right mentioning that it's senseless to nag around on bumping when one just has to edit his threat a little and get it on the top without naging around by someone. That's surely a good point. So hypocritical users could use that and annoyed people could then follow the same by temptation to do the same. So a real technical solution would be the fairest, but also the most expensive. It would mean: Eliminate the bug and then limitate bumps and suggestions. Programmers are expensive and I don't get why we should overregulate ourselves by putting bars on everything, instead of talking about. The same thing happens when someone writes a new comment. A bump itself is only a new comment. I think it would be better to work out better ideas and limitate oneself by pulling out more quality instead of throwing out each thinkable third class idea. KirkPicard, you have many good ideas, but also very much ideas it have the impression it's only to claim the subject. I don't say my words are correct in last instance and maybe I'm wrong. It's only the wish to make it look lesser like claiming masses of "favorite" options, but maybe working a little longer on it, giving it a little time and try to put out more quality. The problem is, that many good ideas (not only mine), also of other users float away on page 3, 4, 5, ... That's a little sad for me. But all-in-all strict regulations seem to be no solution. I was creating polls for about 8 years now. Over the time I learned that it is way better to make ideas that are unique and also options, the people have to think a little about. When I vote a poll, the best were always these when the pollwriters challaged my intellect. So I try to follow such key points. I think it's another thing, when there are events and the polls are made for the events. E.g. New movies in a franchise or galas. (edited for typos)

I think since Sprinklr is a third-party app, even IMDb might not have control over it. I'm not sure what kind of partnership they have, though. The technical fix isn’t too difficult, but it would have to go through their Jira boards. I'll try to limit my suggestions and focus on improving their quality.

Why was polls banned from home page?

I'm not a insider, just a user since 12,5 years. So I can only guess. They made the page ready for cellphones and rebuildt it. I guess that's the reason why they've put the polls on page 3. But since then, the voter count began to sink continuously. We were'nt amused about that. But it was irreversible.
