* The 2026 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Series merges the previously separated categories for Outstanding Talk Series and Outstanding Scripted Variety Series. Both late-night talk shows and scripted variety programs will compete head-to-head again for the first time in eleven years, since the categories were split in 2015. However, the unified format does allow for multiple winners based on individual merit rather than a single selection, if 90% of voters feel a program deserves an Emmy. The category merger is in response to the declining number of submissions in both formats and will automatically split back into two categories if the number of submissions increase significantly in a future year.

The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards (2026) honors the best in American primetime television programming from June 1, 2025, until May 31, 2026. The awards ceremony will be hosted by Mariska Hargitay on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 5 PM PST / 8 PM EST from the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, California, USA. The ceremony will air live coast-to-coast on the NBC broadcast network and stream worldwide on Peacock.
