INTRO: If you had your own personal film festival and had to choose one of the two following categories, which group of films would you prefer to watch?

Nice idea. Terrible year for this idea lol. Both groups mostly awful.

Yeah, I used to do this every year so I did it for tradition but this year the lists don't compare well with some others. I don't think there are any truly awful films that were nominated, although I haven't yet seen three, but I certainly think a few of them were quite mediocre and sometimes even ridiculous, and a few more just overrated. I'm a huge Sean Baker fan so I do love the success of Anora after years of him being shut out but yes, the list overall, is very lackluster, and the box office movies, ugh. To be fair, I didn't see many box office successes because they just seemed bad but, I don't know, it's hard for me to imagine that I missed much. But thanks for the "nice idea." I agree that the raw material definitely limits the execution, lol.

Tomorrow I'm going to look at how the top IMDb rated movies compare. Of the ton ten Metacritic films, I've only seen three.

@rubyfruit76 I found the other polls. I voted Box Office on all from 2016 to 2019. Like this year, 2020 (1 Covid Era) was unvoteable.

The Oscar films are better (except for Emilia Pérez).

I strongly agree. Oh wait, I suppose that's unfair of me since I saw hardly any of the Box Office movies but they just look like bad movies made only to make money.

I'd probably rate "Juror #2" the best film of the year, despite its absence from both lists. It's strong in both entertainment value and more "serious stuff". Also a shoutout to Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette for their performances.
