It's an interesting face-off, but I wonder how many of the voters have actually read The Silmarillion. If they haven't, they'll likely vote for the series by default. Likewise, not everyone who have read the book will have seen the show.

Also, since the show is not based on The Silmarillion, perhaps it would be better to say "Tolkien's version" instead of "The Silmarillion version". That would cover the appendices of The Lord of the Rings as well, which was the primary basis of the show.

I replaced it with "Tolkien's version".

Regarding the voters and how many of them have actually read The Silmarillion, there's you and me, so that counts two. :)

Joke aside, there are probably some more Tolkien fans on IMDb, but as you say, many other voters would likely vote for the series by default. The series would probably win, but there might be some who read the appendices from LotR and would vote for Tolkien's version.

@Vandurath

Perhaps you could also mention the appendices in the intro text:

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022) adapted the Second Age of Middle-earth, which is described in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Silmarillion and the appendices of The Lord of the Rings.

If you want, you could add two more options (feel free to rephrase):

I have only seen the show or I have only read the book, so I can't decide

I haven't seen the show or read the book, so I can't decide

I added the appendices in the intro and both options.

I truly appreciate the Betty White option of "I haven't seen the show or read the book, so I can't decide."

More polls like this should include the neutral option.

I agree as I also voted for one of the neutral options.  There were four polls today and, because of the neutral option in this one, this was the only poll where I voted.

I had hoped those two options would also increase the votes, since there is an option for everyone, but I guess not everyone looks at the poll first, like you guys.

Well, I didn't really expect many votes on this poll, since it's a pretty niche topic. Even with the two neutral options, it will probably get around 60 votes max.

At least it's nice to see Tolkien's version in the lead. :)

Yes! I didn't expect that so many voters have read the appendices (or, even better, The Silmarillion)!
