Magical Realism: Distinct from standard fantasy, this genre introduces magical elements into a realistic, mundane setting in a way that characters treat as normal. It often focuses on metaphorical or social commentary rather than "world-building" or epic quests.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008)

Gaslamp Fantasy: Similar to Steampunk, but instead of focusing on industrial machinery, it focuses on a Victorian or Edwardian aesthetic with an emphasis on mystery, manners, and magic. It is often described as "historical fantasy with a Victorian feel".

Penny Dreadful (2014)

Flintlock Fantasy: A subgenre that combines magic with technology from the era of black-powder weapons (17th–18th centuries). It often features gunpowder-based warfare alongside traditional magical systems.

Shadow and Bone (2021)

Bangsian Fantasy: A specific subgenre focusing on the afterlife. It often features famous historical figures interacting in a comical or philosophical way after death (named after John Kendrick Bangs).

Totally agree with you. I don't know who called it Low Fantasy. Sounds like some subgenre of low budget/low quality fantasy movies. ;D
