@GabrielFox, FYI: The production team behind the Amazon series "Foundation" was initially barred from using the name R. Daneel Olivaw because the rights to the character were owned by a different studio. The character is central to Isaac Asimov's "Robot" series, and the rights to those stories were held by Fox, which is now part of Disney. According to showrunner David S. Goyer, they were aware of this issue from the beginning and planned to only allude to Demerzel's backstory without using the name R. Daneel Olivaw. However, a lucky coincidence led to them getting the necessary permission. Goyer was in a meeting with the head of Fox, who was a fan of the show, and Goyer made a direct appeal for a one-time allowance to mention the name in Season 3. The Fox executive agreed, and their business affairs department granted the permission. This allowed the show to officially confirm on screen the connection that book readers have long known: that the character of Eto Demerzel and R. Daneel Olivaw are one and the same.
