I would personally exclude filmmakers who typically make english-speaking films because they cannot be nominated for international feature. I would also remove directors who have fallen out of glory, and are unlikely to make great films again. For example, Argento and Besson. And lastly, I would suggest: Apichatpong Weerasethakul Albert Serra Hong Sang-Soo Alain Guiraudie Victor Erice Aki Kaurismaki Leos Carax

I changed "living" to "active" and adjusted my lists a bit. Ended up including both Argento and Besson because they are active and probably will get more votes than some of those more arthouse names.
