I've been sitting on this suggestion for much longer than the single month age of the list. Mostly because I really am not sure if I should mention the infamous

Kyoto Animation arson attack/domestic terrorist incident. I don't want to capitalize on the pain and suffering and legacy it has taken hold on in the anime world. And how it would undercut the gorgeous and humane work of those devoted anime creators, both who survived and those who passed away.
