Live Poll: Michael Jackson - His 15 Most Successful Streams

Intro:

Michael Jackson unquestionably was the king of pop. After his passing in 2009, he still is played on radio by audiences wish in musical request programs, no matter how controversial he was discussed in public. Fact is that people still love his songs. The cumulative number of Michael Jackson songs streamed across the two largest platforms with stats shows that he is still en vogue. Which of these 15 songs would you most likely consider his best? Please discuss it here. For slideshow please click here. Please note: Since only exact figures from YouTube and Spotify can be reliably tracked, only these platforms are used. Amazon and Apple are excluded because their numbers would be based solely on estimates. Since Spotify is the biggest music streaming-platform and Youtube has a compareable ammount of music streams, they are the best indicator for the list. As of December 2025.

Billie Jean seems to be at 2 billion on YouTube and almost 2.5 on Spotify.

Thank you for reminding me. In 2026, there is a documentary about MJ. That's the cause why counts rose fast, last times. I've made some edits. First I've cut the intro about 2 lines without changing it basically. And I redefined the whole list, because of the rushing changes. I also only took strongly corrected numbers, which especially on youtube are hard to figure out - because in the case of MJ, from many different videos, different versions are existant.

Hi Breu, I suggest one small edit:

Numbers are current as of January 17, 2026

My vote: Don't Stop Til You Get Enough

Edited. I hope it comes online, soon. Since there are preparations for the new Jackson documenary, it could be that I'd have to correct the numbers each following month.

Breu, there was an error with the list. It's probably this symbol: ≈

If you could please replace it with something else, we can try again.

I've made hyphens of that symbol. The site seems a little primrose about. ;)

Added another option:

My favorite Michael Jackson song isn't on the list

When I found it, I instantly had to laugh. Since then I love grumpy cat and she will ever be an option for me in my polls. Sadly it's long ago Tardar Sauce passed. So I guess there will be no new image content of her.

@Breumaster , @dan_dassow   Instead of just a "like" option, I need an "adore" option for this thread about Grumpy Cat. She has made my day.

@rubyfruit76 & @Breumaster,

Instead of Grumpy Cat, I have a charming and precocious calico cat named Java.

Since seeing this poll suggestion, I've had Billie Jean playing in my head.

"Billie Jean" is fire! Love it! My favorite always was "Beat It". The guitar work of Van Halen is still awesome! All in all the whole album still is  diamond! For me it's not gold or platin. "Thriller" really is a long time burner diamond. I can still hear all songs and have the feeling I had way back in the 80s, when I was a kid and later a young adult. Same for "Bad". Even though he had really bad scandals, he was golden, somehow.

I don't know what he really did, but he was obviously a victim of his stardom. Getting so high at 5 years of age might have seriously damaged him. He acted like a kid, even when he was a young adult. For me he made the impression to be at the state of a teenager when he made "They Don't Really Care About Us". His Prison video about tells a lot. Look at the choregraphy of the guys there. They stomp like stubborn teenagers. On the other hand, the song was powerful. I like it.

Dan, I love cats. They're mostly all precious. Sadly, I'm allergic to animal hair, mostly all kinds of. I'd have a cat for myself, if it wasn't like that.

@Breumaster ,

I'm allergic to cats, but I'm not giving up Java.

Thank you for making the edits we suggested. Unfortunately, I just tried to push your poll I'm getting the Unexpected Error message. I do not see anything in your poll suggestion that should cause that error message. When I get a chance, I will look at your list with a fine tooth comb. I really like your poll suggestion, and would like it to go live.

May it be the "/"? The site is outstanding picky!

@Breumaster ,

I did a complete scan of your list. This is what the scan found:Non-ASCII Characters Found

Character Name Unicode Occurrences
Narrow No-Break Space U+202F 33
Right Single Quotation Mark U+2019 3

Detailed Locations

  • Narrow No-Break Space (U+202F): This character appears as a very thin, invisible space. In your text, it is used extensively as a thousands/decimal separator in the streaming numbers (e.g., between "2.49" and "B") and within the dates (e.g., between "Dec" and "19").

    • Example 1: 2.49 B (Used twice per list item for Spotify and YT figures).

    • Example 2: Dec 19, 2025 (Between the comma and the year).

    • Example 3: 1.29  Billion (List item #6 contains two of these characters in a row).

  • Right Single Quotation Mark (U+2019): These are "smart" or "curly" apostrophes rather than the standard ASCII straight apostrophe (').

    • Location 1: "They Don’t Care About Us" (List item #5).

    • Location 2: "Don’t Stop 'Til You Get Enough" (List item #8).

    • Location 3: "song isn’t on the list" (List item #16).

Note: Interestingly, list item #8 uses a non-ASCII curly apostrophe for "Don’t" but a standard ASCII straight apostrophe for "'Til".

I realize this is a real pain to make the edit. I used Google Gemini to find the characters that were causing the problem. I wouldn't have found them without Google Gemini's help.

Ideally, IMDb should allow the same characters for polls as they do for lists. We can hope this will be done.

Wow! Hi Dan - this is extremely interesting.

Thanks so much for taking the time to check all of this. I ran your findings through ChatGPT, then did the same with the intro text and all poll options and asked it to fix any problematic lines. Let’s see if IMDb accepts the poll now. Going forward, I’ll make sure to double-check this kind of data after adding it to a list - when I think of it. ;)

Please try again and see whether IMDb accepts the revised character formatting. It would of course be great if the system weren’t quite so picky, but if needed, that’s just how we’ll have to handle it.

Thanks again, Dan. 😄

@Pencho15 and @Breumaster ,

It's great to see this finally worked.

I hadn't thought of using an LLM to find Unicode characters in a list before trying it with Google Gemini.

I found it humorous that the only related poll listed for this one is:

Grumpy Cat – The Unhappy Face of Fame

I guess this happened, because the image of Grumpy Cat may be the only image that also appears in other polls. We could proof this little theory of mine, if we sat the other Jackson poll I made up a little time ago online. I guess then there are two polls linked under this one. ;)

Indded, I believe that the Grumpy Cat image I used in the Michael Jackson poll is only used twice here and in the Grumpy Cat poll. But I used some other images of the Grumpy Cat poll in other polls, so under the Grumpy Cat poll, there are other polls linked. Most of them are polls in which Grumpy Cat has an image. So under the Grumpy Cat poll there are a few polls of mine. The only logical theory I have about it.

But I guess it's more about the titles which are linked to the images. Because there is a poll linked under the Grumpy Cat poll, which hasn't got an image of the Grumpy poll in it, but an image which appears in the same title as attached to an image in my Grumpy poll (Kedi).
