Americans celebrate National Hermit Day on the 29th of October each year. The date provides an opportunity to recognize a lifestyle choice that has both advantages and disadvantages, but is not a realistic long-term choice for most people. However, some choose to use the day to get away from it all, and de-stress by spending some time alone to recharge. By definition, a hermit is a person who has withdrawn from society and lives a solitary existence; a recluse.
