Live Poll: Real Halloween: Movies About Saints

Halloween or Hallowe'en (a contraction of Hallows' Even or Hallows' Evening), also known as Allhalloween, All Hallows' Eve, or All Saints' Eve. But, the true meaning of Halloween seem to be lost over the period of time.

To celebrate Halloween, here are some popular movies about saints.

Which movie do you like the most?

Note: Only movies with minimum of 500 votes listed.

@Brijesh

I am not sure Silence (2016), Black Robe (1991) or A Hidden Life (2019) qualify as movies being about saints. The three priests in both of the first two films are fictionalized and most of their real-life counterparts did not achieved sainthood, although others serving in the region at that time did, as matyrs (who died for beliefs) that were elevated to sainthood (with 2 attributed miracles). So maybe, Adam Driver's fictional Francisco Garupe could be argueably thrown into group with other real-life martyrs, but even then only 10% of those were sainted by having two miracles attributed to them (42/400+). All three movies seem to feature

But, Franz Jägerstätter in A Hidden Life comes close with a blessed status, but falls short of sainthood too. I think all three movies seem to have characters that might be candidates for sainthood and possibly could have reached a lower level (Blesseds, Venerables, Servants of God) that falls short of being a saint.

A person of the Church must have had their life and work declared worthy of consideration and then complete the four stages of cannonization by the Catholic Church:

1. Saints

2. Blesseds

3. Venerables

4. Servants of God

The Martyrs of Japan (Japanese: 日本の殉教者, Hepburn: Nihon no junkyōsha) were Christian missionaries and followers who were persecuted and executed, mostly during the Tokugawa shogunate period in the 17th century. More than 400 martyrs of Japan have been recognized with beatification by the Catholic Church, and 42 have been canonized as saints.

The Canadian Martyrs (French: Martyrs canadiens), also known as the North American Martyrs (French: Saints martyrs canadiens, Holy Canadian Martyrs), were eight Jesuit missionaries from Sainte-Marie among the Hurons. They were ritually tortured and killed on various dates in the mid-17th century in Canada, in what is now southern Ontario, and in upstate New York, during the warfare between the Iroquioan tribes the Mohawk and the Wendat (Huron). They have subsequently been canonized and venerated as martyrs by the Catholic Church.

Fratello sole, sorella luna is posted twice.

FYC: Silence (2016) - fictional characters but based on real life people.

A Hidden Life (2019) - He has not been canonized, but he has been beatified.

Simón del desierto (1965) - two minutes short of a feature film, but directed by Luis Buñuel if you want to consider.

Hi Brijesh, when I make polls with title lists, I often put them in alphabetical order or chronological order so that duplicates don't happen. (I think it also helps the voter keep track more easily but duplicates do happen so easily otherwise.)

'Such a good poll, btw.  : )

Thank you Pencho, I have added all suggestions.

Thanks Dan for English name, I would forever be finding the names otherwise. :D

Rubyfruit, the multiple inclusion of title keeps happening to me sometimes. I will try to use that method. Thank you. :)

My vote will go to The Passion of Joan of Arc but I'm glad to see 'Black Robe' on the list. I thought it was quite good and not widely seen.

May I suggest just a few small edits to the very good and informative intro?
